Toro Snow blowers: Shopping Tips

One the most asked questions from buyers of Toro Snow Blowers, is what do I need to look for with Toro snow blowers?   So here are a few guidelines and tips to help that search.

One the best things to look for is a reputable dealer.  There are only 7 different manufacturers of snow blowers currently since there have been a lot of consolidations over the years.  You want to find a dealer who will stand by the product and help you if you have problems.  Of course we recommend Toro Snow Blowers.

Toro Snow Blowers: Don’t buy too much power

Don’t buy more machine than you need.  In most cases a 8 horsepower engine will do the trick for most homes.  Even though there are more powerful options, the larger units can be hard to store, use and control.

Keep in mind that if you do get a smaller machine, it may take more time to finish the job.  However, for older individuals or someone who doesn’t want to wrestle a big machine, the smaller units will be much more your speed.

If you have areas that are gravel covered, you really should use a two-stage snow blower.  Single-stage machines spin faster and can be easily damaged if a piece of gravel gets stuck.   Also these machines tend to toss the gravel all over the place which can be dangerous to windows and people passing by.  The two-stage machines spin slower and are designed for areas with gravel.

Toro Snow Blowers: Keep it Simple

Keep it simple.  Often times manufacturers come up with lots of extra gadgets on these machines.  If the extra gadgets don’t effectively help you get the job done right and fast, it’s not really worth the extra money.  Additionally it’s another part that can break or have to be repaired.

If there is a battery used to run the electric starter and other accessories, keep in mind that this device will be used for a period of just a few months.  During the off season you’ll want to disconnect the battery or utilize a battery charger.

Although heated hand grips sounds great and comfortable, essentially they have to pull that heat from somewhere and it will come at a sacrifice of horsepower, that could better be used to move snow.

You want to have a sturdy machine.  Be sure that the handle assembly is solid and stable.  During use that thing can get tossed around quite a bit.

Many of the electric start units are powered by a connection to the house.  If you don’t have one handy to where you want to use the machine, it could be something you could live without.

There are shear pins that are to protect the parts that handle the snow.  Inspect these so that you can see if they are something you could possibly replace on your own if you need to.

There are no real advantages to tracked units versus ones with tires.  One negative is that there are more parts to break on the tracked models.

So keep these tips in mind as you decide which of the Toro Snow Blowers will meet your needs.  I hope that it’s helpful and that you enjoy your new Toro snow blowers.
